About us
WHO ARE WE? We are a friendly road and XC running club based in Dulwich,
south east London. We have approximately 250 members of all
abilities who compete in road, XC, multi-terrain, fell and track
races. New runners are always welcome, however fast or slow. Sadly
we don't have the resources to cater for younger runners (under 16).
WHERE DO WE MEET? We're based at the Edward Alleyn Club at
rear of 83-85, Burbage Road, London, SE24 9HD. Click here to see the
location. The entrance is almost opposite Herne Hill cycle stadium.
The nearest rail stations are Herne Hill and North Dulwich. The
nearest underground is Brixton. Buses 3, 37 and 196 take you from
Brixton to Herne Hill. Buses 68 and 468 take you from Elephant &
Castle or Camberwell to Herne Hill. Bus P4 takes you from Brixton to
Dulwich Village.
WHEN DO WE MEET?
Wednesdays - We meet at the
Edward Alleyn Club on Wednesday evenings
at 7:00pm. The run starts at 7:15pm. There is a weekly running fee
of £1. You will receive a map giving a choice of routes from c. 4 to
11 miles and a weekly newsletter "Shorts" distributed via email. Hot
food and a drink is available after the run.
Sundays - We also meet on Sundays throughout the year in Dulwich
Park for informal runs of an hour or more. We meet at the car park.
Check Shorts newsletter for details and times.
Tuesdays - From mid September to mid April we train at
Ladywell
track on Tuesday evenings. Click here. In the late spring and
summer the session is held at
Dulwich
College Track.
Fridays - Track sessions for all abilities from mid April to mid
September at the Dulwich College track in College Road, London SE21.
Click here to see the location of the track.
ARE YOU A BEGINNER? Then welcome to running. To get the best out
of our Wednesday club evening you'll need to be able to run for
about 30 minutes non-stop (however slowly!). To get you started why
not try the
beginners' schedules at the Runners' World website?
OUR COMMITTEE The club is run by a main committee which meets
every two months. The posts are elected at the Annual General
Meeting in October and serve for one year. In addition there is an
Athletics Development Sub-Committee which meets as often as is
necessary. These committees need your feedback and support to be
your voice in the running of the club. If you have a problem or want
some advice, contact one of the committee members.
HOW CAN YOU JOIN? Membership costs £20 per calendar year (Jan
01 to Dec 31) for competing members, which includes EA registration
of £5, and for non-competing members £15. Under 17s pay £5. In addition there is
a £1 running fee for Wednesday night.

COACHING Dulwich Runners have a wealth of running experience
for you to tap into. We have a number of members who are formally
qualified as Club and Assistant Club Coaches and many more who have
been advising runners for a number of years based on their own
experience. In short, if you need help at whatever level, we can
provide it.

HISTORY OF THE CLUB In the late summer of 1980 Malcolm
Marrison and Ron Searle, who used to run together in South Africa,
were having a quiet pint in the Clock House in Dulwich. During the
course of the conversation it was suggested that they might run the
first London Marathon. Four other friends were recruited and the
first map for a 4 mile run was drawn up, starting a tradition that
has remained ever since.
NEWSLETTER "Shorts" is our weekly club newsletter. It is your
guide to what other members have been up to (race results, personal
news, etc.) and what is going on in the coming weeks (races to
enter, social events, etc.) The editor needs your input, so please
ring, email or fax your race results or news to him/her by Monday
evening and see your name in print!
Email our Shorts editor.
KIT Wear the Dulwich colours with pride! A range of club kit
is available from
Steve Cook. Vests, T-Shirts, sweatshirts and long
sleeved t-shirts are available at reasonable prices. Email Steve
Cook.
SOCIAL EVENTS Dulwich Runners has always had a strong social
side to its activities. Regular events are organised throughout the
year. There is always a Christmas party and a post-London marathon
party. Meals at local restaurants are often arranged after club
races.
